11 December, 2007 - 'Footy worshipper' Angela Pippos to join Radio Sport 927

Angela PipposFormer ABC television presenter and journalist Angela Pippos will join Radio Sport 927 next year as co-host of the Prime Time Sports breakfast program.

Ms Pippos will work alongside current co-host Michael Christian. She replaces Mick McGuane, who has been offered a supplementary role he is considering. Ms Pippos starts at the station on February 4, 2008.

Radio Sport 927 general manager Noel Crowe said the station had been searching for some time for a competent female sports presenter for the breakfast show. "This is the first time we will have had a male and female breakfast partnership, which is popular in commercial radio and appeals to the listeners," Mr Crowe said. "We believe we have found the perfect presenter in Angela who has the ideal profile with her wealth of sports knowledge, articulation and appealing personality."

Ms Pippos, who began her career with the ABC in her hometown of Adelaide, moved to ABC TV news in Melbourne in 1997. Although she has been a guest presenter on ABC 774 Radio, Ms Pippos said she is delighted to be making her first fulltime venture into radio broadcasting.

"I'm very excited about this next phase in my career," Ms Pippos said. "After 14 years in television I'm looking forward to the freedom of radio and life without hairspray. This job combines my love of sport with something else I enjoy doing - chatting. I'm a sports nut. At the age of eight I threw away my ballet shoes and picked up a shiny new netball in one arm and a footy in the other and this was the beginning of my love affair with sport and I've been riding the rollercoaster ever since."

This year Ms Pippos was crowned Victoria's Best and Clearest TV presenter for a fifth time and her love of sport extends to writing her first book The Goddess Advantage - One Year in the Life of a Football Worshipper, which was short-listed for the Colin Roderick Award for Australian literature. She is working on a second book to be published in 2008. Ms Pippos was asked by the ALP to stand for Steve Bracks' Williamstown seat this year, but she turned down the approach.

The Prime Time Sports program airs from 5.30am to 9am on weekdays.

4th October 2007 - Angela Pippos resigns from ABC TV

Angela PipposAfter more than ten years with ABC TV News in Victoria Angela Pippos has resigned as Sports Journalist and Presenter.

"To use the words of retiring great Glenn Archer, the time is right for me to move on. I've had 14 wonderful years at the ABC and now I'm ready for my next challenge." - Angela Pippos.

"Angela has resigned from her position as ABC TV News Sports Journalist and Presenter and will be pursuing other opportunities in the media…, but with her passion, vivaciousness and intellect her future is bright." - Mary-Louise Santa, MLS Management.

Angela wishes to thank the ABC and the community for their support over the years however she doesn't intend to disappear from public view.

Angela Pippos shall announce her plans for the future shortly.
